Smart Dog Pet Training provides personalized, private training with you actively participating in every session. We focus on teaching you how to understand, train, and communicate with your dog so you can continue building success long after your training program is complete.
Every program begins with an assessment of your dog, discussion of your goals, and a customized training plan.
No group classes. No board-and-train. No daycare or drop-off training. Just personalized training, owner education, and hands-on coaching.
Salem & Keizer Dog Training Pricing
4-Week Foundation Program — $375
A great starting point for puppies, basic obedience, manners, and common household challenges.
Best for:
- Puppy training and basic obedience
- Leash manners
- Jumping and greetings
- Household boundaries
- Sit, stay, come, leave-it and other foundation skills
Includes: In-home assessment, customized training plan, four private one-hour sessions, weekly homework and trainer support.
6-Week Transformation Program — $445
Our most comprehensive general training program provides additional time to develop stronger obedience, improve manners, address multiple training goals, and build greater reliability.
Best for:
- Adolescent and adult dogs
- Multiple obedience or behavior goals
- Improving leash manners
- Impulse control and focus
- Building reliability around everyday distractions
- Owners who want additional coaching and practice time
Your program includes:
- Comprehensive in-home assessment
- Customized six-week training plan
- Six private one-hour training sessions
- Hands-on owner coaching
- Progressive weekly training goals
- Customized homework and practice guidance
- Ongoing trainer support throughout your program
6-Week Public Distraction Training — $475
Take your dog’s training beyond the living room.
This program is designed for dogs that understand basic obedience but need greater focus, confidence, and reliability around real-world distractions. All six training sessions are conducted at pet-friendly public locations throughout the Salem area.
Training may include:
- Loose-leash walking around distractions
- Sit, down, stay and recall in public
- Maintaining focus around people and other dogs
- Calm greetings without jumping
- Waiting calmly before entering public places
- Impulse control and engagement
- Building confidence in unfamiliar environments
Training locations may include pet stores, Riverfront Park, Salem Center Mall, Lowe’s, Home Depot, local parks, outdoor shopping areas, and other pet-friendly locations.
Important: Public Distraction Training is designed for dogs that are comfortable around unfamiliar people and dogs. Dogs displaying significant reactivity, aggression, fear, or severe anxiety are better suited for our Behavior Modification Program.
6-Week Behavior Modification Program — $525
Personalized training for dogs experiencing more challenging behaviors that require an individualized approach.
Rather than simply correcting the behavior you see, we work to understand what is contributing to the behavior and teach both you and your dog more appropriate ways to respond.

- Leash reactivity
- Reactivity toward dogs or people
- Aggressive behavior
- Fear and anxiety
- Excessive barking or over-arousal
- Threshold management
- Counter-conditioning and desensitization
- Focus and impulse control around triggers
Your program includes:

- Individualized behavior modification plan
- Six private one-hour training sessions

Every Program Is Personalized to Your Dog
Dogs are individuals. Breed, age, personality, previous experiences, home environment, and behavior all influence how they learn.
That’s why we don’t use a one-size-fits-all training plan.
Your trainer will work directly with you and your dog, demonstrate each training technique, help you practice it successfully, and provide clear steps to continue working between sessions.

If you’re not ready to begin a complete training program, an assessment-only appointment is available for $90.
We’ll meet with you and your dog, discuss the behaviors you’re experiencing, answer your questions, and provide professional recommendations for moving forward.
